What Is a Deep Cleaning?

Over time, bacteria build up below your gum line in places your toothbrush and floss cannot reach. If you’ve missed your regular dental cleanings, you may have pockets between your teeth and gums created by bacterial growth. These pockets must be treated using a process called scaling and root planing, which will stop the spread of infection.

  • Why Do I Need a Deep Cleaning?
    • To maintain a healthy and beautiful smile.
    • To prevent decay, infection, gum disease, and tooth loss.
    • To remove stubborn plaque and tartar that your toothbrush cannot reach.
    • To catch problems early, before they become more expensive.
    • To ensure whole body health and well-being.
  • Does It Hurt?
Your hygienist will make sure your gums are numb before beginning treatment. Your gums may feel sore following the deep cleaning, but it won’t last long. If you experience dental anxiety, please tell us! We offer many dental sedation options to keep you relaxed.

Hear From Our Patients

Icon of five stars
"I recently had my first baby, and I think my pregnancy really did a number on my teeth. They suggested a deep scaling and root planing. They even had the manager come in and explain what my insurance covered. They were very gentle when they did the cleaning. I’m not even that sore after the numbing wore off, even though they used a laser to clean. I have to say this is the best dentist I’ve been to!"

"Today was my first experience at Buffalo 215 Dental & Orthodontics. Checking in was simple, especially since most of the new patient forms were available online. Everything was good from the X-rays, examination, cleaning, deep cleaning, removing one old filling, and taking care of one new cavity. Great staff from the front office to the doctor, hygienist, and others in the back."

They have the newest and best equipment. I definitely give them 5 stars; I would give them more if I could. I think I just found a new dentist for the entire family. You will love it, too!"
