Inlays And Onlays For Custom Same-Day Tooth Restorations
At Providence Dental, we carry out many tooth restorations for urgent care patients. We’ve been restoring teeth since 2016 for our valued patients.
We fill cavities. We repair broken teeth. We place dental implants after a tooth extraction. Regardless of the extent of the tooth damage—or if the tooth has to be extracted—we create custom restorations.
In today’s post, we are going to review two types of restorations: inlays and onlays.
What’s The Difference Between an Inlay And an Onlay?
Both inlays and onlays are smaller than full crowns. They can be made of metal, composite resin, or porcelain.
Inlays and onlays are very strong and shaped to precisely fit a hole in a damaged tooth. The choice of an inlay or onlay depends on how much decay and tooth loss has taken place.
An inlay resembles a filling and fills a small part of the tooth, while an onlay covers one or more cusps, or bumps, on the top of the tooth.
- An inlay fills a hole without changing the shape of the tooth
- An onlay builds up the tooth surface to restore its initial dimension
Inlays And Onlays in One Dental Visit
With our CEREC technology, we can create and place an inlay or an onlay in one dental visit.
The service begins with a extensive evaluation and X-ray. The damaged tooth structure is removed. The inlay or onlay is milled to accurately fit your tooth and bite.
After the CEREC milling machine creates the restoration, it’s permanently affixed to the tooth. Same day restoration!
Matched Perfectly to Your Tooth Color
Inlays and onlays are durable and inconspicuous. We match them to the exact shade of your tooth. No silver amalgam.
Inlays and onlays guard the tooth from further damage. They provide natural function.
We are a full-service dental practice. An urgent care dentist must be skilled in emergency, general, and cosmetic dentistry.
